Why We Started No Kings National
A publication that tracks authoritarian behavior, explains fascist politics, and raises the flag when democratic lines are being crossed.
Too much political writing still treats where we are like normal partisan drama.
We are here with you to study authoritarianism and fascism in public, and in real time. We want to help people see what we see and to understand why we believe we are already in the fascist regime.
We don’t want strongman politics in the United States. We don’t want a country where power is personal, where loyalty stands above law, or where dissent is treated like disloyalty. If that sounds like a strong position, consider what it means that it needs to be stated out loud.
This publication has a simple job: pay attention.
When we say authoritarianism, we mean a system that concentrates power, weakens accountability, and asks the public to accept less freedom, less dissent, and fewer democratic guardrails.
When we say fascism, we mean the harder edge of that system like mythic nationalism, scapegoating, enforced hierarchy, intimidation, and the idea that domination is a form of national renewal.
Here you will find clear explanations of authoritarian and fascist behaviors, historical context when current events start to rhyme, analysis of propaganda and democratic erosion, and warnings when a line is being crossed.
This is an educational publication.
We are not neutral between democracy and authoritarianism and we are not interested in pretending that naming dangerous behavior is somehow more irresponsible than ignoring it.
If a line is being crossed, we will say so. If a pattern is forming, we will trace it. If a warning light is flashing, we will not wait for permission to mention it. That is what No Kings National is for.
